Marketed for the performance gaming sector the external drive bay was a breakout device designed to read SATA drives, flash memory devices, provide USB connectivity and offer internal fan control for PCs. Sketch renders were used to explore design variations with foamcore mockups used to gauge ergonomics. Rough 3D models were used to validate internal PCB and component placement.

First round of sketch rendering exploring drive orientation option.

After deciding on a horizontal top slot configuration for the drive control options for fans and details were explored.

Final render of the drive with slide type fan controls. An additional 3D mock-up was made to verify that PCB and various internal components would fit in casing.
